National Species Management & Action Plans

International Single Species Management & Action Plans adopted under AEWA provide the general management and conservation framework for a species at a flyway level, setting the goal and objectives for the conservation of a population. More detailed management and conservation plans are, however, often needed at a national level – particularly in key range states for the species in question.

In addition to a more detailed assessment of management issues and the identification of key regional sites, national management and action plans should also set out core activities such as yearly monitoring and specify which national entity is in charge of the activity. The adoption of a national management or action plan can also help to institutionalize management and conservation efforts and secure government support for the species.

For the Svalbard pink-footed goose no national management or action plans have been adopted, to date.

Nevertheless, the International Species Management Plan for the Svalbard pink-footed goose recognises the benefits of developing national management plans, where appropriate. In addition the UNEP/AEWA Secretariat strives to assist range states in the development of national management and action plans for priority species, by offering general guidance and facilitating national planning processes if requested.

For the Svalbard Pink-footed Goose no national management or action plans have been adopted, to date.
